Eri's Pages Chapter 1

Ronte walked down the stairs a little earlier than usual. Barely a ray of the first sun shone through the horizon, the purple, orange, accompanied by the grey tint of the clouds made for a peaceful view. He grabbed a mug, boiled some water, and poured the strongest tea they had. The first sip was the most comforting, the hot water heated his body on its way down. Ronte felt happy, everything around him seemed like an omen of an excellent day. Until he saw the note on the counter, barely at the edge. As he crumpled the note up his mood soured, he hid it in his pocket and left for his workshop. He lit the fire with a spark snap of his fingers and he threw it inside without looking at it again. He contemplated the flames timidly biting the paper, then the voracious appetite when they swallowed it whole. There was little comfort in watching the cruel words consumed, yet it was enough to put the problem aside for the well-being of his family. After that, he cracked a smile and dedicated h...

The Blinking Bottle

Allek stood below the downpour at the edge of town. He had his eyes set towards his former lover’s house. Not even the water could stop the intensity of the emotions that had taken control of his heart. There was no time to waste, if he took too long he might lose her forever. As he gave the first step forward a small bell rang behind him. The chime of the bell caught his attention on a deeper level. The man turned around. He did not remember seeing a bar at the edge of town before. There was a strange aura about the place: A neon sign, like nothing he had ever seen, read “ The Blinking Bottle ”. The windows were softly tinted white with a warm amber light illuminating the water droplets. Two thick varnished tree trunks heald the structure in place, ending with two more beams that made the triangle shape of the roof. Below was the sign held in place by a long wooden board. The light from the sign seemed to come from nowhere. It shone with pink, orange, and red tones. Allek began to q...

Eri's Pages Chapter 4

Ronte ran out the door, followed by Punali. The man didn’t stop until he got to the barn and looked around for Jakul. ─What happened?─ Asked catching her breath. ─Eri is not in her room!─ Ronte searched frantically. ─Eri!─ Called out to her mother. ─Jakul, where are you? ─Jarek was in his room, Jakul must have gone to sleep… Ronte didn’t let her finish before running back to the house. He went to the side, were Jakul’s room was, and knocked with all his strength. Jakul opened the door with a yawn. ─What’s happening?─ His enormous hands rubbing his sleepy face. ─Have you seen Eri? Jakul’s eyes opened wide, yet he stood still avoiding crossing Ronte’s glance. ─Jakul, she is not in her room. She could be in danger!─ He feared repercussions from the church. ─I saw her running to the forest, but she couldn’t have gone far.─ His deep slow voice was full of shame. Ronte turned red with furry, his fist clenched, a spark crackled around it. He was ready to shout his lungs out when Punali ...
